About Saugus. Another bedroom community that sprang up in the mid-1900s, the area is bespeckled with new home developments. It is located near the boundaries of Valencia, yet backs up against the Angeles National Forest. Saugus is known for its excellent schools. Choose this community for its value--many developments do not have homeowners association fees, Mella Roos, or school bond taxes. It is also convenient to both Interstate 5 and State Hwy 14.
Saugus is census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Clarita, California. Saugus was one of the four communities (along with Valencia, Newhall, and Canyon Country) that merged in 1987 to create the city of Santa Clarita. Saugus is named after Saugus, Massachusetts, the hometown of Henry Newhall, upon whose land the town was originally built. It is also where Saugus High school is located. The Saugus Cafe, on San Fernando Road, was established in 1887 and appears to be, by far, the oldest still-operating restaurant in Los Angeles County.
